Feedback From Good to Govern Seminar for NHS Organisations  22 April, 2009

Jesus College, Oxford

FROM AN IN-SEMINAR ANONYMOUS EXERCISE

Today Has Been ...

1)      Stimulating and thought-provoking.

2)      Another light bulb going on and has confirmed my continued interest in Policy Governance.

3)      Very informative.

4)      Interesting, engaging and informative.

5)      Enjoyable and interesting.

6)      Mentally stimulating, fascinating and well worth getting up at 5 a.m. for!

7)      Mind-provoking and clarified a lot of ‘unknowns’.

8)      Very busy, positive and helpful.

9)      Informative.

10)  A useful and interesting seminar.

11)  A good introduction in Policy Governance which has answered most of my questions.

12)  Very thought-provoking and enlightening.  I came to the day without preconceptions about Policy Governance and will leave feeling that it is definitely worth further exploration.  I don’t feel it changes what happens below board but would improve board focus.

13)  Interesting and a good chance to hear from senior board members on what it means to have (or not) Policy Governance in place.  The language at times has been difficult to understand, however once discussed in context became clearer.

14)  Fascinating, energising, motivating.

As a Result of Today I ...

1)      Can see a wide application for PG in many different organisations.

2)      Definitely want to undertake the Academy.

3)      Will continue to adhere to the principles of Policy Governance.

4)      I will think/discuss/debate how a board can increase their efficiency.

5)      Am excited about possibilities for the model’s implementation.

6)      Will bother with more questions I will no doubt come up with driving home.

7)      Will revisit the tool being considered and look at education issues.

8)      Will continue with our PG implementation.

9)      Have a greater understanding of PG and will explore how I may ‘spread’ or use it to support other boards I am engaged with.

10)  Have lots of things to consider when going back to my trust and evaluating our goveranance requirements.

11)  I would like to re-read all the book and learn more about the practicalities of inmplementing this in both NHS and charities/nor for profit organisations.

12)  Recommend further consideration to my Chair.

13)  Will try to gain a better understanding of governance but it has made me realise how massive this is!

14)  Will introduce the ideas to some of my directors, slowly and gently, to try to get to the point where I could propose this approach more formally.

And the Other Thing I would Like to Say is....

1)      I really think PG could help organisations through hard times as well as good times.

2)      Thank you for being an inspiration.

3)      Management of risk is the other/parallel critical issue.

4)      Its bl----- complex!

5)      A good mix of experience and expertise.

6)      Thank you for welcoming and FE interloper – safe journey home!

7)      Thank you for the time and effort involved in setting up the day.

8)      Sharing experiences is crucial, having a common framework in which they take place is essential.  Really good engagement today, thank you.

9)      Enjoyable.

10)  Thank you to Caroline and all participants for making today as valuable and informative as it has been.

11)  “Thank you” and “can we have your autograph?!”

12)  I appreciate the candour and openness of today’s colleagues.

13)  Lovely setting!  Some useful tips and ideas to take forward.

14)  I liked the fact that we did not have to do lots of group work where we have to provide the material!
